Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS) is thrilled to announce the launch of the 2026 PAWS for GAWS Charity Dog Walk; a fun, community event in support of vulnerable animals.
Taking place on Sunday 1 March 2026, the event invites dog lovers and community members of all ages to join a relaxed 4km walk along the picturesque Geelong Waterfront, starting and finishing at the Eastern Park BBQ area in East Geelong, followed by festivities at the event hub.
GAWS CEO Helen Cocks said community support of events like PAWS for GAWS makes a meaningful difference to the lives of lost, surrendered and stray animals in the Geelong region.
“As a community, when we walk together for a cause we all care deeply about, the impact goes far beyond one beautiful day,” Ms Cocks said. “PAWS for GAWS is not just about dogs on leashes - it’s about the thousands of animals in need of care, shelter and a second chance.”
“The support we receive through this charity dog walk directly translates into care, medical treatment and brighter futures for the animals in our shelter. We are deeply grateful for our community.”
Participants are welcome to join with their dogs or simply walk alongside GAWS in support. Along with the scenic waterfront stroll, the day will feature: '
Post-walk festivities, entertainment and activities for families and dogs
A lively event hub with food, coffee and community stalls
Merchandise
Pooch Parade – Categories: best dressed, waggiest tail and best trick
Prizes and giveaways
All funds raised through PAWS for GAWS go directly toward supporting GAWS’ vital work: providing shelter, care, veterinary support and rehabilitation for homeless, abandoned and surrendered animals. GAWS’ shelter is a not-for-profit organisation and relies entirely on the generosity of the community to continue its mission.
Last financial year, more than 3100 animals arrived at GAWS needing care. It costs GAWS more than $65 a day to provide care for one animal.
Registrations are now open and all registrants receive a PAWS for GAWS branded dog bandana and bumper sticker. To register, visit pawsforgaws.org.au.
