The fourth book in the Raw Meaty Bones Tetralogy due for launch on National Pet Day, 11th April.
In 1991 Dr Tom Lonsdale blew the whistle on the systemic animal cruelty and consumer fraud arising from the pet food industry/veterinary alliance. At the same time he proposed a simple, humane and economical solution for pets: a diet of raw meaty bones with occasional table scraps.
Rather than confront inconvenient truths, the pet food industry and veterinary allies turned truth upside down. They claimed that dogs and cats should only be fed factory-made products and that natural raw meaty bones were dangerous. Company-aligned vets attempted to silence Lonsdale. They made disciplinary complaints, accusing him of ‘bringing the veterinary profession into disrepute’.
Undeterred, Lonsdale continued to campaign for better pet health and legal accountability for those he identified as partners in crime.
From 2001 to 2011 he published quarterly online newsletters—now assembled in this book. It’s a living history of the raw meaty bones campaign against the multi-billion-dollar pet food fraud.
